labrador retriever puppy trainingBelieve me no one enjoys potty training puppies; however when you and your family make the decision to add a member to your family; then there is absolutely no way around it. If you do not take the time to learn about potty training puppies; then your house will become a mess. Your new pup will leave his mark everywhere; heck who knows maybe you will even step on something that you may not want to.

So if you want to keep your house nice and free from urine and other messes; then it is time to learn these tips for potty training puppies so that you both can live in harmony. You will discover that once you learn about housebreaking a puppy; you will realize that it is not as difficult as some people seem to make it.

1. Start Early: It is important that the minute you bring your pup home; you begin immediately potty training your puppy. In fact I highly recommend that as soon as you bring them home; you should take them outside for a while. Especially if they were in the car for a while; chances are they will need to use the bathroom as soon as they get out.

I know this because when I brought my Pug home right after getting her; I put her down on the hardwood floor and shortly after there was a small puddle.

2. Potty Training A Puppy: No one enjoys toilet training anything; however don’t look at as an unpleasant experience. It will give you and your puppy a chance to bond; so choose to use that time as a bonding process that will develop into a healthy relationship.

3. Feeding Schedule: While you are potty training your puppy; make sure that you feed him/her at the same time each and everyday. This will keep their bowel movements at the same time each and everyday. It will also ensure that you are less likely to have accidents in your home.

4. Consistency: Make sure that you take the puppy outside every morning; this should be the first thing that you do. You will also want to take them outside at least 10 to 20 minutes right after they finish eating and drinking and right before you go to sleep at night.

Why Potty Training Puppies Is Important

Posted by: | Comments (0)

puppy trainingBringing a new puppy home can be one of the biggest highlights of every one’s life especially children. When someone announces they are getting a new puppy; you can see every one’s face light up. However what most people don’t realize is that they are not ready to begin housebreaking a puppy. In fact you want to begin potty training puppies as soon as they get home.

While potty training puppies may not be the easiest thing that you do; the truth is that it is extremely important; especially if you do not want to clean up any messes! One important thing to remember whenever you are training a puppy; is that accidents will happen.

You never want to punish your puppy for an accident; we all know that toddlers have accidents and so will your new puppy. You will want to calmly let them know that they did something that you did not approve of; however you only want to acknowledge the accident if you happened to witness them doing it. Never try to discipline them for something that happened and you did not see them do it.

Your new puppy will never understand what they are being punished for. In fact they may even become frightened of you because they think that they are going to be punished for no reason at all. Remember even though you consider your new furry friend a member of the family; he does not understand you like the human members of the family.

Not only is potty training puppies important in a new pups life; but you also want to begin with puppy obedience. Your new best friend is only going to be a youngster for a while; eventually he will be a dog. If you do not implement the right type of puppy obedience now; chances are he will take control of the home when he becomes older.

Start raising your puppy the right way; potty training puppies should be one of the things on the top of your list for getting your new buddy housebroken. Do not forget to take him to the vet to find out if he is a healthy pup; so he can grow up to be a healthy dog.
